Senior Thesis 2025

Rooted, Unrooted, Propagated:

Home influences inconsequential aspects about us that we might not ever notice but also momentous traits. From the way we load dishes, the manner of blanket you prefer to sleep with up to our understanding of humanity. We are constructed by small pieces, moments, and feelings that form our beliefs, goals, and morality. I find myself keenly aware of the ways in which my family has influenced who I am, while also observing and analyzing the ways these qualities are imbued in others. Thinking about the tether we are all bound by and yet, the inevitability of walking through the world as an individual. I seek to portray these simple and profound influences through my utilization of scale and perspective in paintings. Manipulating the paint in an intimately expressive way to evoke an emotional experience while still imbuing personal symbols throughout the work to speak to my understanding of who I am based on my home. I am reflecting on the experiences of being both rooted, unrooted, and propagated as we live in the world around us.
